BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Thunder plated a pair of first-inning runs but immediately relinquished the lead in a 4-2 loss to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Kyle Holder and Trey Amburgey hit consecutive one-out singles in the top of the first off Binghamton (47-51) starter Justin Dunn. Ryan McBroom followed with a single to left field for the Thunder (53-45), but Holder, attempting to score on the play, was thrown out at the plate by left fielder Kevin Taylor. McBroom, however, advancing to second on the throw home, drew an errant throw from catcher Tomas Nido, allowing both Amburgey and McBroom to score for a 2-0 Trenton lead.

But Thunder starter Trevor Stephan labored through the bottom of the first inning, issuing a leadoff walk to Joey Wong, who stole second before scoring on a Levi Michael single. Taylor then doubled, putting runners on second and third, and Nido atoned for his throwing error by delivering a go-ahead, two-run single.

Stephen yielded another RBI-single to Michael in the second inning, and lasted just four innings, striking out six but throwing 90 pitches in his abbreviated start.

Phillip Diehl and Brady Lail each provided two scoreless innings of relief to keep the game close for the Thunder. Eight of the nine players in the Trenton lineup collected a hit, but the team went just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left a total of six men stranded.

The loss denied the Thunder the chance at winning the four-game series.

Your Thunder conclude the road trip on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. against the Rumble Ponies. RHP Nick Nelson (double-A debut) will start for the Thunder, and RHP Mickey Jannis (6-4, 4.52) will go for Binghamton.
