
Ann Wauters signs with Liberty

New York, (February 10, 2004) - The New York Liberty has signed post player Ann Wauters to a multi-year contract. The announcement was made today by New York Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager, Carol Blazejowski.
Wauters, 23, was drafted by the Liberty as the fourth overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Dispersal Draft on January 6. As the former no. 1 overall pick of the 2000 WNBA Draft, Wauters currently averages 16.4 ppg, 8.8 rpg and 2.5 apg for team US Valenciennes Olympic in France.
During the 2002 season, the 6'4" center marked her best campaign in the WNBA averaging 11.2 ppg along while shooting .553 from the floor. On the defensive end of the floor, Wauters led the Rockers in total blocks with 21.
"To sign a young talent such as Ann Wauters to a multi-year contract means a great deal to this franchise," said Blazejowski. "Her versatility and athleticism around the basket really helps solidify our front court and puts us in a better position to compete for a WNBA Championship."
Conditions of the contract were not released per team policy.
The New York Liberty basketball team, in its eighth year of operation with the 2004 season, is part of the Madison Square Garden, L.P. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in the MSG L.P., which also include the New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Rangers (NHL), the Hartford Wolfpack (American Hockey League), the MSG Network, Fox Sports New York and the Madison Square Garden arena complex, located in the heart of the New York metropolitan area.
