LOS ANGELES - Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC)announced that the club has exercised their option to extend star forward Sydney Leroux's contract through December 2024. Leroux joined the club midway through the 2022 NWSL Season via a trade with the Orlando Pride.
"I am so excited to continue my career with Angel City," said Leroux. "Los Angeles has truly become home for me and my family and I wouldn't want to play anywhere else. The community the club has built is incredible and I look forward to playing many more games in front of the best fans in the NWSL."
"We are so happy that Sydney is continuing her tenure with Angel City," said ACFC General Manager Angela Hucles Mangano. "The passionate way she plays brings such an exciting element to our squad, in addition to her veteran leadership. She leaves everything out on the field every time she plays, in a way that is all Syd. There is no one like her and we are lucky that she is part of our team."
Since joining ACFC, Leroux has appeared in 19 total matches, earning three goals in 1,054 minutes, which boosted her career total to 40 goals in 133 total matches. Prior to joining the club, Leroux spent four years with the Pride. She has also played for Kansas City, Western New York, Seattle, and Boston in her 11 years of NWSL experience. Leroux was also a member of the US Women's National Team from 2011-2017, scoring 35 international goals. She was a key member of the winning USWNT squads at the 2012 London Olympics and 2015 Women's World Cup.
In 2013, she had a breakout NWSL season with the Boston Breakers, where she scored her first professional goal and hat trick. The following year, she was traded to the Seattle Reign, where she would help lead the team to the 2014 Supporters Shield. A native of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, Leroux played collegiately at UCLA from 2008-2011, where she led the Bruins in scoring for three consecutive seasons. Following college, she was chosen in the 2012 Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) draft by the Atlanta Beat, before transitioning into the NWSL in 2013.
