Angel City FC News Release
LOS ANGELES - Last Night, the Angel City FC and NJ/NY Gotham FC players came together to make a statement against gun violence following the recent senseless acts in Uvalde, Buffalo, and Laguna Woods. They wore orange, the color recognized to honor those whose lives have been lost to gun violence, and did not start play when the whistle blew. Instead, they came together at center pitch and held a moment of silence along with the nearly 19,000 in attendance at Banc of California Stadium. Additionally, the north end Supporter Section of the stadium held orange ribbons, over 800 pieces of orange paper, and handmade signs.
Earlier in the week, Angel City Head Coach Freya Coombe said, "It's not an easy thing to see in the news and it has affected the group as it should. It should affect all of us, but we've got a great group of humans that really feel the tragedy and the injustice that's happening."
Following the moment of silence and throughout the game, a QR code was shown on the video board with a link to resources to act, learn, and give to end gun violence. Angel City faces the Portland Thorns in Portland this Friday, June 3rd, which is National Gun Violence Prevention Day.
