Detroit Fury News Release
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Detroit Fury quarterback Andy Kelly is on pace to do what no other professional quarterback, in any league, has ever done in his career -- throw 500 touchdowns. Kelly currently sits at 493 career touchdowns, and is on pace to hit the 500 mark this Sunday, March 16, when the Fury face off against the New York Dragons at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
Kelly, who recently became the first quarterback in Arena Football history to surpass the 25,000 passing yards milestone, is racing for the 500 mark. New York Dragon's quarterback Aaron Garcia currently has thrown 488 touchdowns, and although no quarterback has thrown for 12 touchdowns in a single game, Kelly is feeling the heat. The current record for most touchdowns in a game is 11, which is held by Garcia.
"Andy has had a great career as a professional football quarterback, and he has earned this mark through hard work and dedication," said Fury Head Coach Al Luginbill. "We are glad to share in his success and we look forward to Andy leading our team to a successful season."
Kelly already holds the AFL's career passing records for attempts (3,669), completions (2,257), yards (25,458) and touchdowns (493), and was brought in prior to the start of the 2003 season to solidify the Fury's quarterback position. A nine-year veteran in the AFL, Kelly has led his team to the playoffs in the last five years, including last season's expansion Dallas Desperados.
Kelly and the rest of Fury will spend the rest of the week preparing for the Dragons. The Fury will be practicing at the following times at the Shelby Soccer City in Utica:
Wednesday, March 12 - 8:00-10:00 a.m.
Thursday, March 13 - 8:00-9:30 a.m.
Friday, March 14 - 8:00-9:15 a.m.
All players and coaches will be available immediately following practice for interviews, but other requests can be made by calling the Fury's Communications Manager, Jason Miller, at (248) 377-8704.
The Fury (3-3) are currently tied for first place in the Eastern Division and return home this weekend to play their new division rival New York Dragons (0-6) on Sunday, March 16th. The Fury have five remaining home games, and tickets for the Fury can be purchased by calling (248) 377-0100, and any additional information can be found at www.detroitfury.com.
