Brooklyn Aviators News Release
BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators, proud member of the Federal Hockey League, have announced today that rookie forward Andrew Owsiak has been called up by the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL.
Owsiak, 24, recorded 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 27 games played for the Aviators this season.
"Andrew has been one of our hardest working players all year, so it was no surprise that he was called up," said team President and Head Coach, Rob Miller. "We wish him the best of luck, and we know he will do great."
The Dartmouth College product was recently named the FHL's Rookie of the Month for his play during December. Owsiak led Brooklyn with nine goals and 13 points in 10 games played this past month, while also chipping in with four assists. On Dec. 31, against the Cape Cod Bluefins, Owsiak had a hat trick - his second of the year - in the first period and added a helper to have his first four point performance of the season.
The native of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan skated in 107 career games for Dartmouth, where he had 14 goals and 28 assists for 42 points. Prior to Dartmouth, Owsiak spent three years in Junior (SJHL, AJHL) and registered 108 career points in 120 contests.
He is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Walleye take on the Wheeling Nailers at 7:35 P.M.
Owsiak, and former Aviators Jarrett Rush and Vladimir Nikiforov, are all currently playing at the 'AA' level.
Toledo is the current affiliate of the AHL's Rockford Icehogs and Grand Rapids Griffins, and NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings
Brooklyn takes on the New Jersey Outlaws at home tonight at 7:35 p.m. Great tickets are still on sale for A's home games, and can be purchased by calling 718-758-7580 or logging onto www.brooklynaviators.com, TODAY!
