Anaheim Storm Still Raging in Playoff Race
April 6, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Anaheim Storm News Release
The National Lacrosse League's ANAHEIM STORM (4-9) are still in the playoff race, fighting for their first playoff appearance in team history. They made a statement last weekend when they defeated the Colorado Mammoth, 10-6, in front of more than 18,000 Mammoth fans in the Pepsi Center. Goaltender Matt Roik recorded a total of 51 saves in the game and held the Mammoth scoreless for 33 minutes. Peter Morgan (3g, 2a) and Casey Powell (2g, 2a) led the Storm offense.
The team hopes the momentum can carry them through the final three games of the regular season and into the post season. Here is the scenario as the Storm enter Week #15:
- The Storm must defeat the Minnesota Swarm (3-11) this weekend at home. Earlier this season, the Storm beat the Swarm in Minnesota, 8-7, giving them their first road win.
- The Colorado Mammoth (8-6) must defeat the Arizona Sting (7-6) this weekend in Arizona. The two teams have split the contests so far this season. The Storm beat the Mammoth in Denver last weekend, 10-6. It was the first time they have ever defeated this league powerhouse that includes lacrosse legend Gary Gait.
- The Storm must then sweep a home-and-home series against the Sting next weekend. Arizona took the game earlier this season but the Storm have made a couple changes since then, including adding Bill Greer in a trade with the Sting.
The defending champion Calgary Roughnecks (9-5) and Colorado have already secured two of three playoff spots in the West Division.
The NLL Champion's Cup Final will be aired live on NBC, May 14th at 3:30pm ET.
Tickets are on sale now for the game this Saturday against the Minnesota Wild and the April 15 battle against Arizona. Tickets start at just $10; find all the details at www.anaheimstorm.com. Find all the playoff news at www.nll.com.
