Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors won a wild extra inning game in Elmira 11 to 10 in 12 innings in Elmira, New York on Monday night.

The Ambassadors jumped out to a 6-2 lead after three and a half innings, in large part due to two doubles by Brian Macchi, one in the bottom of the second and one in the bottom of the fourth.

But Elmira clawed back into the game, scoring two in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run by catcher Brian Jones, his second of the game and third of the season, one in the bottom of the fifth, and one more in the bottom of the seventh. Elmira scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Carlos Gonzalez and Jose Guerrero to take a 8-6 lead.

But the Ambassadors struck back in the ninth off Elmira closer Chris Keelin. John Tavares walked to lead-off the inning, then after a Schuyler Doakes strikeout Jorge Diaz singled. Ender Gonzalez flied out and then Marlon Roche hit a drive to left field that went off the glove of left-fielder Ryan Lehr, allowing both Tavares and Diaz to score to tie the game. Diaz barely made it into the plate ahead of the throw from the outfield. Vic Davilla followed with a double scoring Roche to give the Ambassadors the lead.

But the Ams couldn¹t hold the lead in the bottom of the ninth, as Cleatus Davidson walked to lead-off the inning and eventually scored to send the game into extra innings.

The Ambassadors took another lead in the top of the eleventh, with Ryan Bordenick driving in Ender Gonzalez, but again the Ambassadors could not hold it, as Elmira tied the game in the bottom of the frame. The Ams went ahead for good in the top of the twelfth, with Jorge Diaz scoring on a Ender Gonzalez single.

Nolan Fry got the win in relief for the Ambassadors, while Scott Meyer took the loss. The win was the first of the season for the Ams. Elmira dropped to 2-3 on the season.
