Allen, Texas - The Wichita Thunder took a 1-0 series lead over the Allen Americans on Tuesday night, winning Game 1 of the Ray Miron Presidents Cup Finals by a 4-1 score.

Todd Griffith scored two goals for Wichita, his first two of the post-season, while Les Reaney added two assists in the Thunder's Game 1 win.

The Americans' lone goal came in the third period on the power play, when Todd Robinson fed Trevor Ludwig with a pass to the left side of the ice that Ludwig fired into the net for his third of the post-season. That cut the lead to 2-1, however Wichita responded twenty-three seconds later when RG Flath blasted one past Aaron Dell to give the Thunder their two-goal lead back. Chad Painchaud put the game out of reach with his third of the playoffs, and the Thunder would go on to win by a 4-1 score.

"We didn't play good enough," said Americans Captain Jason Deitsch. "We had a good start, then we took a few penalties and they grabbed the momentum. We need to get many more shots on net and more traffic in front of their goalie. We need to play a much more physical game on Thursday."

The Americans have now dropped the first game for the third straight series, losing to Denver in Round 1 and Missouri in Round 2. Game two of the Presidents Cup Finals is Thursday night at 7: 05 pm in Allen. Tickets are on sale at Allen Event Center box office or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
