American Sneak Past IceCaps in OT

St. John's IceCaps News Release


ROCHESTER, NY - The St. John's IceCaps were just shy of a two-point night as they were edged 3-2 by the Rochester Americans in overtime at the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday night.

IceCaps' Max Friberg kicked off the scoring late in the first off a play from Stefan Matteau. The Americans answered with back-to-back goals in the second from Mike Aviana and Taylor Fedun to take the lead.

Yannick Veilleux scored for the second time in as many nights to send the game to overtime. Brett Lernout and David Broll picked up the helpers on the tally.

The IceCaps went shotless in the extra frame while Rochester's Justin Bailey scored on their third attempt for the win. Netminder Yann Danis made 26 saves in the loss. St. John's is now sporting a three-game point streak.

The IceCaps will take a short Christmas break and return to action on Boxing Day (Dec. 26) to face the Toronto Marlies at the Ricoh Coliseum. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers and www.ahllive.com.
