Pensacola 4, Shreveport 3, resumption of 5/28 suspended game

RF Juan Rocha's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth pushed across the winning run as Pensacola defeated Shreveport 4-3. The Sports went ahead 3-0 with a run in the first and two more in the third on a sacrifice fly from DH Chad Gambill and an RBI single from LF Al Corbeil. The Pelicans' bats were quiet until the eighth, when 3B Trino Aguilar had an RBI single and LF Ed Montague drove in Aguilar and C Jose Yepez with a two-run double. Despite not receiving a decision, Shreveport starter Bert Show had a decent outing, giving up no runs on five hits in seven innings pitched.

Down 11-2, Pensacola mounted a furious comeback but fell just short as Shreveport edged the Pelicans 11-10. Up 1-0, the Sports, who banged out nineteen hits on the evening, scored four in the fourth on RBI doubles from C Jason Torres and 2B Neb Brown, and added two runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Pensacola then stormed back with four in the eighth and four more in the ninth, and had the tying and winning runs on base when the game ended. 3B Melvin Falu went 4-for-5 with three runs scored for Shreveport; LF Ed Montague was 3-for-4 for Pensacola.

2B Denver Kitch's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth drove in PR Shingo Mitsumori and gave St. Joe a thrilling 10-9 victory over Sioux City. In a back-and-forth game, the Explorers overcame a 5-0 deficit to go up 7-5, only to see the Blacksnakes respond with four of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Two more Sioux City runs tied it at nine in the eighth before Kitch's heroics in the tenth. 1B Dan Meier went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI for the Explorers, while 3B Ben Thomas was 3-for-4 with three RBI for St. Joe.

Fort Worth scored a run in the bottom of the eleventh to break a 3-3 deadlock and snap their four-game losing streak. El Paso tallied single runs in the first, second and third innings, while the Cats responded with single runs of their own in the fourth, fifth and seventh; the bats then went quiet until Fort Worth's run in the eleventh. 3B Terence Green went 4-for-6 for the Cats; 3B J.P. Schmidt was the Diablos' offensive leader, going 3-for-4.

St. Paul starter Justin Lord was solid, giving up one run on four hits in seven innings of work to earn his fifth victory of the season, as the Saints downed slumping Sioux Falls 3-1. St. Paul scored their first run on C Jeremy Frost's RBI double in the second, and added two more in the fourth on a solo home run from LF Brian Sprout and another RBI double from Frost. Sioux Falls' only run came on 1B Dennis Anderson's sixth-inning RBI single.

Coastal Bend 3, Lincoln 2, 11 innings

Despite a remarkably inefficient offense that could only muster three runs on seventeen hits, Coastal Bend edged Lincoln 3-2 in 11 innings in a series pitting the American Association's two division leaders. Aviators C Jeff Ontiveros' two-out RBI single in the 11th proved to be the difference; earlier, both teams scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. 1B Byron Smith and LF Brian Fryer led the way for the Aviators with three hits apiece, while DH Bryan Warner went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI for the Saltdogs.
