St. Louis Ambush News Release
St. Charles, MO - The St. Louis Ambush dropped to 1-4 on the season when they suffered a 9-3 loss at the hands of the Milwaukee Wave (4-2) Saturday night in Milwaukee.
Neither team scored in the first quarter. Milwaukee drew first blood with a long shot at 3:24 of the second quarter. The Ambush answered when an Elvir Kafedzic restart shot hit the boards and was caught by Chad Vandegriffe, who buried it past goalkeeper Nick Vorberg to even the score at 7:17.
The duo of Pablo Da Silva and Mario Leite combined for the next two goals. Da Silva scored assisted by Leite at 9:03, then with less than a minute left in the first half, Leite scored with the assist going to Da Silva at 14:41, giving the Wave a 3-1 lead at halftime. The Wave out shot the Ambush 20-8 in the first half.
Milwaukee was a runaway train in the second half, scoring six unanswered goals from Tenzin Rampa, Leite, Luan Sales Oliveira, Bato Radoncic, Anthony Arico and Ian Bennett; all in the third quarter, which ended with Milwaukee enjoying a comfortable 9-1 lead.
Ironically, Milwaukee didn't score in the final quarter, but they didn't need to. The Ambush did manage to put two on the board by capitalizing on power play opportunities. Kory Dowell scored his third goal of the season at 7:56 and Blake Ordell earned his fourth at 14:29, but the gap was too large and the final buzzer sounded with Milwaukee on top, 9-3.
The game was marked by defensive lapses and lack of shooting by the Ambush, who were out shot 40-21 by the Wave. Defensively, Milwaukee players blocked 6 shots, while Ambush players blocked 3. Nick Vorberg made 12 saves on 15 attempts in goal for the Wave, while Greg Crook turned in another outstanding performance for the Ambush, stopping 20 of 29. Milwaukee collected 21 fouls and the Ambush were charged with 12. The Ambush return home to the Family Arena when they host Detroit Waza Flo for the first time ever on Saturday, December 13 at 7:35 p.m. That night will also honor the 1994-95 NPSL Champion St.
Louis Ambush team on the 20th Anniversary of capturing the title.
