Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors lost their sixth straight game to the North Shore Spirit, who have now won six games in a row, 11-3 Tuesday night in Allentown.

The Ambassadors got in front 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Vic Davilla hit a solo home run to right field off Spirit starter Jeremy Sugarman. The home run tied Davilla for the career record for home runs in the Northeast League with Jon Mueller, but that tie would not last for long. Davilla hit a two run home run in the sixth inning to left-center, his nineteenth of the season and seventy-first of his Northeast League career. Davilla now holds the career records for hits, doubles, home runs, and RBI.

But in between the home runs the Spirit exploded for nine runs. In the fifth, Frank Charles began the inning with a single, and would score on a Fran Riordan single to tie the game. Ambassador starter Chris Kelly then loaded the bases, and with two out, Marcos Agramonte hit a two run single into left field to make it 3-1.

In the sixth, Eddie Muth and Rob Fischer both singled with two outs, then Riordan hit a towering three run home run to left field, his fourth of the season. After Jason Startari walked and Yuri Sanchez singled, Agramonte hit his third home run of the year to right field to make it 9-1.

From that point the Spirit cruised to the victory. Sugarman pitched a complete game, giving up eleven hits and three runs, walking one and striking out five. He is now 7-1 this season. Kelly got the loss, he is now 4-3. Agramonte was 2-4 with a run scored and five RBI, while Riordan was 3-5 with three runs scored and four RBI. The two teams play again tomorrow night, with Chad Ward pitching for the Ambassadors and Bryan Morse for the Spirit.
