New Jersey Jackals News Release
John Anderson's bases loaded two RBI single in the bottom of the second would prove to be all the Jackals would need as they defeated The Brockton Rox by a score of 5-2 in Little Falls Tuesday night.
The Jackals led off the second with back-to-back singles by Scott Samuels and Carlos Pagan off of Rox starter Mike Mardesano (7-7). After a Chris Rowan strikeout Craig Conway would walk to load the bases. A passed ball through the legs of Rox catcher Mel Rosario would bring in Samuels from third to give the Jackals the lead for good. Anderson followed by smacking Mardesano's 1-2 pitch into right center plating Pagan and Conway. Darryl Brinkley would cap the Jackal scoring in the frame on an RBI single scoring Anderson.
Starter Joel Bennett (6-1,), pitching on an impressive three days rest, would earn the victory, tossing six strong innings allowing one run on seven hits and striking out five. Bennett's only run allowed came in the second as Brockton tied the game at one an RBI single by Mel Rosario scoring Francisco Matos.
Jackal pitching was aided by a strong defensive performance featuring five inning ending double plays including one to end the game.
Jackal Kevin Grijak finished 2-4 with an RBI single, his seventh RBI in 8 games with his new club.
