Can-Am Canadian American League

Playoff Races Tighten

Published on August 19, 2003 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

With two weeks remaining in the Northeast League season both divisional races are virtual dead heats.

Quebec leads first-half champion North Shore by one-half of a game in the North while first-half winner New Jersey has an identical second half record (17-16) as Elmira in the South Division.

If North Shore, New Jersey or both teams repeat as half winners, a wild card team will make the playoffs. The team or teams with the next best overall record for the season, regardless of division, will get the playoff berth(s).

Brockton is 42-35 overall, one game ahead of Quebec (41-36) and two games ahead of Elmira (40-37) in the wild card standings.

The divisional round of the playoffs begins Sept. 3 at New Jersey and North Shore. The series shifts to the park of the second half winners for games three through five Sept. 5-7. If one team wins both halves, it will also host game five.

The Northeast League Championship Series will start on Sept. 9. The first two games will be held at the North Division winner and the last three will be played at the South Division winner.
