Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The Allentown Ambassadors got behind early and could never recover, losing 7-1 to the Elmira Pioneers Monday night in Allentown.
Elmira got out to a 3-0 lead off Ambassador starter Miguel Perez in the first. Perez walked Alex Marconi on four pitches with the bases loaded to force in the first run, and then Ryan Webb singled, driving in Rafael Alvarez and Scott Hunter to make it 3-0.
Perez seemingly settled down and the Ambassadors got an unearned run in the third, but the wheels would come off in the fifth. After getting a strikeout for the first out, Perez gave up a solo home run to Cleatus Davidson to right field, Davidson's third of the year. Then Alvarez walked, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. He would score on a Scott Hunter double, then Brian Jones singled home Hunter to make it 6-1.
Elmira would cruise from that point and win 7-1. Hatuey Mendoza scattered eight hits over seven innings, allowing one unearned run while striking out four and walking one. He picked up the win, improving his record to 4-5. Perez had a five game winning streak snapped and earned the loss. He is now 5-4. Elmira increased their lead over New Jersey to a full game in the South with the win, improving their record to 12-9. The Ambassadors fall to four and half games out of first and are now 8-14. The two teams play the second game of the three game series tomorrow night, with Nolan Fry taking the mound for the Ambassadors.
