THE STAKES: The Dusters have lost three consecutive games since defeating Lubbock in the season opener. After being routed at Tulsa, the Dusters lost back-to-back heartbreakers against Arkansas (63-55) and Rio Grande Valley (38-35). The Dusters are one notch above the Renegades in the Central Division Standings, but must gain a victory on Saturday night in order to stay in step with the rest of the division, as Tulsa stands at 4-0, followed by Arkansas at 3-1, and Oklahoma City at 2-2.
The Renegades got their first taste of af2 victory last Saturday night as they rolled the Texas Copperheads 65-27. Newly acquired quarterback Robert Kent made his first start in Lubbock a memorable one, throwing five touchdown passes and running for two touchdowns as well.
COACH PERDUE'S THOUGHTS ON LUBBOCK:
"The Renegades are playing much better football now that they have a few games under their belt. They played a very close game against Arkansas and they defeated Texas last week, so now they know how it feels to win. Their new quarterback gives them a new dimension, so we have to stay focused and play a complete game. We've been our own worst enemy the past three weeks, and we can't keep repeating those same mental mistakes. "
DUSTERS HEAD COACH STEVE PERDUE
ROUND 2 OF THE I-27 SHOOT-OUT IS IN LUBBOCK!
In 2004, the Amarillo and Lubbock franchises faced off in the IFL Championship game, after playing 4 times in the regular season. Now, the stakes are higher, as the Dusters and newly-formed Renegades go to battle for the second time in af2. Previous games saw standing room only crowds in the Amarillo Civic Center and sellout crowds at the Lubbock Coliseum. The Dusters won the season opener 61-26. Following Saturday night's battle, the two teams play in Lubbock again on June 23rd.
