Amarillo Cruises Past Odessa to Round Two of the Playoffs

Amarillo, TX 6/28/10 - The Venom (12-3) shake off sluggish start to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

West Texas started off scoring late in the first quarter with a field goal by kicker Zeke Arevalo. Amarillo running back Dontrell Moore responded quick with a rushing touchdown. Amarillo 7, Odessa 3.

Venom wide receiver Ricardo Lenhart began the second quarter with a receiving touchdown. Line backer Kendrick Bournes earned a sack as defensive back Darrius Battles collected an interception (5 total) returning the ball for 19 yards. Quarter back Julian Reese rushed for a touchdown then completed a pass to running back Dontrell Moore for a 34 yard touchdown. Roughnecks' wide receiver Steve Bergeski scored the only touchdown for West Texas, as Amarillo led 31-10 at the half.

Roughnecks' Dewayne Hogan began scoring in the third quarter. Venom wide receivers Ricardo Lenhart and Alex Watson responded with receiving touchdowns. Odessa wide receivers Joshua Floyd and Steve Bergeski countered with a touchdown each. Amarillo 44, Odessa 30.

In the fourth quarter, Venom kicker Darren McCaleb knocked home a 28-yard field goal. The Venom defense dominated with a safety and defensive linemen Barrett Allen and Brandon Jenkins gang tackling West Texas quarter back Tommy Jones. Venom quarter back Julian Reese rushed for his second touchdown of the night as Roughnecks' wide receiver Steve Bergeski scored the final touchdown of the season for Odessa. The final score Amarillo 56, Odessa 38.

The Venom will embark on round two of the playoffs Saturday July 3rd at 7:05 CST in the Amarillo Civic Center taking on the Arkansas Diamonds. Fans may catch Saturday's action beginning at 6:55pm CST on 1440 AM ESPN Radio with Kurt Kiser or on B2 Networks.
