THE SERIES: It's the 7th and 8th meetings of the season between the Amarillo Bulls and the Odessa Jackalopes. This season series has been hotly contested with each team collecting six points. The Jackalopes and the Bulls each have won twice in Odessa and once in the Texas Panhandle. After this weekend, there are still four more meeting (each team hosting a weekend) before the close of the regular season.
ACROSS THE SOUTH-WHAT IS AT STAKE: There are no other games in the South Division this weekend as the other four teams are off.
The Amarillo Bulls are closing in on their fourth South Division regular season title but first since the 2013-14 season. That would give the Bulls home ice throughout the South Division Robertson Cup Playoffs. The Shreveport Mudbugs and the Lone Star Brahmas are embroiled in a battle for 2nd place and home ice with just a point separating each team. The Corpus Christi IceRays have a four point lead over the Topeka Pilots for the 4th and final playoff spot in the division. The two teams still have yet to face one another during the regular season. The Odessa Jackalopes are still alive and trail Corpus Christi by nine points.
TOP PROSPECTS RECAP: The South Division and the NAHL Selects Blue team went unbeaten at the NAHL Top Prospects in Attleboro, MA at the New England Sports Village. The South Division blanked the NAHL Selects Red 4-0 thanks to a goal and an assist by Logan Jenuwine. Brenden Datema had an assist as the Selects Blue defeated the Midwest Division 6-2. On the next day, Datema scored a power play goal as the Blue dumped the East Division 5-1. The South Division rallied in overtime to beat the Midwest 2-1. Logan Jenuwine set up both goals.
STATS ETC: The Amarillo Bulls had an eight-game unbeaten string snapped on Saturday night with the 2-0 loss to the Shreveport Mudbugs at George's Pond Hirsch Coliseum. That setback was just the second for the Bulls in regulation on the road this season. The Odessa Jackalopes kept their playoff hopes alive with a split of games in Corpus Christi, falling 5-1 and winning 6-2.
