Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Even though summer is here and the thermometer has been pushing over 90 degrees the past few days, there is one bright spot. It's just over three months until the Amarillo Bulls face off their fifth anniversary season in the North American Hockey League.
The Bulls unveiled their schedule featuring plenty of terrific dates, and a new opponent. The 5th anniversary schedule officially begins with the NAHL Showcase in Blaine Minnesota in September where the Bulls will face four different opponents on the ice at the Schwann Super Rink.
After that the Bulls and new Head Coach Jon Rogger return for the home opener on Friday, September 26 and Saturday, Sept. 27 when they host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. That weekend will mark the 19th consecutive year of hockey being played in the Texas Panhandle.
"We're excited about our 5th anniversary schedule, starting with our first home dates versus the Killer Bees.," said Vice President-General Manager Rick Matchett. "We've feel like we have a lot of great home dates that are family friendly. The home and home series with Wichita Falls will be a lot of fun and something we've been looking to do for quite some time. We're looking forward to another successful season."
All Friday and Saturday games will face off at 7 pm with the Sundays set for 6 pm. There are 11 Friday games, 12 Saturdays, three Sundays and two midweek games. There are several new wrinkles this season including home and home weekends with the Wichita Falls Wildcats that will take place in early October and then again in February.
For a fifth straight year the Bulls will celebrate Thanksgiving on the road with games in North Richland Hills against the Lone Star Brahmas followed by a weekend set in Hidalgo, TX against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Back for a fifth year is Sonic Sunday, with a date to be announced, as fans get to see a hockey game free. The Bulls will once again host a New Years Eve game on December 31st with a game against the Wichita Falls Wildcats.
The other big change in the Bulls schedule will be the Wenatchee Wild joining the South Division. The Bulls and the Wild will face one another on Saturday, Jan. 31 and Sunday, Feb. 1st in the Pacific Northwest. Wenatchee makes its first and only trip to the Texas Panhandle on Friday, Mar. 13 and Saturday, Mar. 14.
The home schedule also includes regular visits by the nasty rivals Topeka RoadRunners, Corpus Christi IceRays, Odessa Jackalopes and Lone Star Brahmas.
Due to events inside the Amarillo Civic Center, the month of November remains the least amount of home games at just two, while the longest stretch of games in the Texas Panhandle is six dating from mid-December to early January.
