Amarillo Bulls News Release

TOPEKA, KS - The Amarillo Bulls had another one of their signature bounce back wins on Saturday night at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena.

After a tough performance 24 hours earlier, the Bulls dug down deep and rallied past the Topeka RoadRunners 4-2. The difference in the game was the third period when the Bulls netted two goals in a span of four minutes to snap a 2-2 tie.

The victory was Amarillo's 12 and it moved them to within two points of second place Texas Tornado, with a head to head match-up set for next Thursday and Friday in Frisco. The RoadRunners are only three points ahead of the Bulls for first place.

"That was a really good win considering we only went with 11 forwards tonight as a couple of guys were injured," said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. "We had Brady (Ferguson) kicked out of the game in the first period so technically we had just two centers Matt Sieckhaus and TJ Sarcona. James Bonaguro came up and played well, and we had a lot guys who stepped up with great roles in different situations.

"Our guys stuck to the game plan and didn't get rattled when Topeka tied the game. When you are on the road you're not looking for cute hockey just two points. The guys showed a lot of character tonight."

After surrendering the game's first goal on a five minutes penalty kill, the Bulls took over with solid play the last six minutes. Tyler Gernhofer scored his first as a Bull, collecting a loose rebound to beat goaltender MacKenzie Sawyer. Ryan Cole and TJ Sherman added assists. The Bulls outshot Topeka 9-8 including 9-2 on even 5-on-5 hockey in the last six minutes of the period.

The second period was a better one for the Bulls and they scored the lone goal when Michael Davis tipped home a point shot from Joe Grabowski at the 11:30 mark. The Bulls outshot Topeka 14-10 in the middle stanza.

Topeka tied the game up just 20 seconds into the third period but that didn't stop the Bulls. On a five minute power play, John Rey's blast from the point was tipped in by Ryan Cole to give Amarillo its second lead of the game. James LaDouce also picked up an assist on the play.

Four minutes later, Omar Mullan worked out of traffic and fired a shot that beat the goaltender short side to make it 4-2. Mike Davis earned an assist on the play.

Down the stretch, the Bulls defense tightened and goaltender Collin Delia made some big saves to keep his team in front and preserve the win.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Topeka RoadRunners 32-27. There were five total power plays with each team scoring once.

Box Score - Amarillo 4 Topeka 2
