Amarillo Bulls News Release
BLAINE, MN - Game On!
It's time to get down to business for the Amarillo Bulls as their 2012-13 regular season faces off on Wednesday at the North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota.
The Showcase is a four day-event that brings all of the NAHL teams under one roof so they may play in front of scouts, and teams that they don't get to face due to travel distances. The Bulls are a combined 6-1-1 in two years at the event.
Three of the four teams the Bulls will face this year have new coaches, and all of the teams advanced to the NAHL post season.
The Bulls, which captured the NAHL Organization Of The Year, return nine players to the roster from one year ago that won 46 games and captured the NAHL Overall Regular Season Title, as well as the South Division regular and post season championships. Amarillo also set an NAHL record with 99 points in a 60-game schedule, and returned to the Robertson Cup for a second consecutive year. The Bulls led the NAHL with 13 NCAA College Commitments.
Up first for the Amarillo Bulls are the Austin Bruins from the Central Division tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 1:45 pm central. The Bruins are the lone representative from the State of Minnesota remaining in the NAHL. Last season, Austin finished with 36 wins and won its first playoff series before falling in the division final to the Bismarck Bobcats.
On Thursday, the Bulls play one of the last games of the day when they take on the Wenatchee Wild at 7:45 pm central. The Wild have been a strong team in the West Division for several seasons along with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Wenatchee set NAHL records one year ago with the least goals allowed and the lowest goals against.
It's an early game on Friday for the Amarillo Bulls when they battle the Port Huron Fighting Falcons at 1:15 pm. It's the second time the two teams will meet at the NAHL Showcase with the first one taking place two years ago that Amarillo won in a feisty affair. Port Huron went from the bottom of the standings in year one to the top of the North Division and a trip to the Robertson Cup National Tournament in their second season. The Fighting Falcons feature former Amarillo Bulls forward Ricky DeRosa.
The Bulls close out the NAHL Showcase on Saturday at 12:15 pm against the Springfield Jr. Blues. There will be several familiar faces on the Blues roster including former Bulls forward Mitch Rogge, as well as Ryan Atkinson who suited up for the Odessa Jackalopes. The Jr. Blues, who are the longest running franchise in the NAHL, advanced to the Midwest Division Final.
Broadcast Information: Fans can tune into all four games at the NAHL Showcase on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com, beginning 15 minutes before the puck is dropped with the Bulls Warm Up Show. Denis J. Puska returns for his third year with the Bulls and seventh overall in Amarillo.
