Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls defense of the 2013 Robertson Cup National Championship will begin in mid September with the 11th annual North American Hockey League's Showcase Tournament at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.

The Bulls learned today (Wednesday) who their four opponents will be at the annual event which they have a combined record of 8-2-2.

The Showcase is a unique event where teams face opponents they would normally see due to travel. It's also a big opportunity for the players to display their talents in front of several hundred NCAA and NHL Scouts.

The event will also feature all 32 teams from the Tier I North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL), eight additional teams from the Upper Midwest High School Elite League (UMHSEL) and 12 teams from the Tier I High Performance Hockey League (HPHL). In addition, there will be four at large Midget Minor 16U Tier I teams who will compete in the HPHL 16U division as a part of the five-day, 80-team showcase event. A complete schedule for all teams at the Showcase is expected to be released in the very near future.

The Bulls defense begins on Wednesday Sept. 18 when they battle the Johnstown Tomahawks at 8:15 pm. The Bulls faced the Tomahawks when they were formerly the Alaska Avalanche two years ago. In the second game on Thursday, Sept. 19, the Bulls will lock up with the Bismarck Bobcats in a rematch of a round robin game of the 2013 Robertson Cup. It's the second time the two teams will meet at the Showcase and fourth overall, including two other confrontations at the National Tournament. The Bulls are unbeaten with four straight wins. The face-off of that game is scheduled for 8:15 pm.

In the third game on Friday, Sept. 20, the Bulls meet the Kenai River Brown Bears at 1:30 pm. This will be the first ever meeting between the two franchises.

The Bulls wrap up the event on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they meet the Janesville Jets at 12:45 pm. That's also a first-ever meeting between the two teams.

"Each year the NAHL Showcase keeps getting bigger and better as we continue to serve our hockey community in the highest regard by providing all the players with unmatched exposure to the hundreds of scouts who will be in attendance," said NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld. "We believe that the 2013 NAHL Showcase is shaping up to be the best yet and will continue to provide a unique opportunity for all the players that compete and to all the scouts that attend this year's event."
