Amarillo Bulls Drop 4-2 Decision to Brahmas

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls surrendered two goals 32 seconds part in the first two minutes of the 2nd period and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. That game began a seven game home stand for the Bulls that continues with two more games versus the Brahmas tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday at 7 pm. The win by the Brahmas vaulted them into a tie for first place in the South Division with the Amarillo Bulls with each team having 13 points.

Kosta Likourezos and Brendan Michaelian tallied for the Bulls, while Nikita Babintsev took the loss in goal turning aside 29 of 33 shots he faced.

It was a tale of two halves to start the game between the Amarillo Bulls and the Lone Star Brahmas. The visitors got to the Bulls early and peppered goaltender Nikita Babintsev with nine shots and scored once. Drake Glover scored on a feed from Austin Kamer at 8:25. However, Amarillo started to put shifts together and outworked the Brahmas outshooting them 8-3. Hayden Broomhead with the Bulls best scoring chance deflecting a shot from Brendan Michaelian that went off of goaltender Alex Calvaruso and wide. Lone Star outshot Amarillo 12-9.

A wild second period produced a total of five goals with the Brahmas putting some separation between themselves and the Bulls with two goals 32 seconds apart to make it 3-0. The second goal was scored with an extra attacker on a delayed penalty. The Bulls cut into the deficit on Brendan Michaelian's shot from the point was deflected in by Jake Nitsche at 7:06. Charlie Singerhouse grabbed an assist on the play. Both teams took a break from scoring until the final three minutes of the stanza. Hunter Stanley scored for Lone Star off a deflection to make it 4-1, but then Kosta Likourezos netted his 8th on a 5-on-3 at 18:12. The Brahmas outshot the Bulls for a second straight margin of 12-9 and 24-18 overall.

The third period featured no scoring at all as both teams battled hard for the puck. The Bulls continued to have the better of the play and the scoring chances but the puck wouldn't bounce in their direction. In the final minute the Bulls kept pressing hoping to get their goaltender to the net but the Brahmas defense prevented the home side from getting that extra attack.

The Amarillo Bulls were outshot 33-26 by the Lone Star Brahmas. There were a total of 10 power plays in the game with the Bulls going 1 for 4 and the Brahmas 3 for 6.

Fans can catch another exciting game between the Bulls and the Brahmas on Saturday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
