Odessa Jackalopes News Release
Late Goal Gets Jacks First Sweep
The Odessa Jackalopes took game one last night in Corpus Christi 2-1 with a late goal from Ryan MacKellar on a shot from Christian Hausinger. Looking to keep it going tonight in Corpus Christi.
1st period went to the Jackalopes. They fired 15 shots on net, finding the back of the twine on one shot from Jake Levin. 4:45 into the game, the Jacks' Cooper Zech took allowing Chase Thudium to get the rebound. Thudium made all the magic happen before passing it off to Levin. Levin was able to get the puck into the net with help from traffic in front, putting the Jacks up 1 early on.
Into the second with a 1-0 lead, history was starting to repeat itself. Jackalopes with some good chances but the period was won by the IceRays who were able to get a shorthanded goal to tie the game at 1-1. Brad Power took the puck and used his speed to race into the attacking zone and find Matthew Acciaioli across the ice. Acciaioli was able to lift the puck up and beat Jonny Hogue shortside, top-shelf, for his 2nd goal on the season.
Entering the 3rd period tied, the game started to take the shape of yesterday's game even more. Fortunately, defenseman Nick Wilson helped keep the script by flinging one at the net hoping for a little help. Help came in the form of extra bodies as the traffic was too much for Corpus Christi goaltender, TomáÅ=A1 Vomá=C4=8Dka, who missed the puck glove side, resulting in the game-winning goal.
With 7.1 second remaining on the clock, Hogue made a save for the ages, doing the splits and spanning the length of the crease to save a puck through a five-man pileup. That was enough for the Jacks as Hogue increased his record to 5-2 on the season, saving 28 of 29 shots in the game.
Jackalopes took home their first series sweep of the season and hope to keep it going next weekend when they travel to Shreveport to take on the Mudbugs in a rematch of last weekend's split series.
