Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - One of the players who had an impact for the Pens Elite U18 team and their USA Hockey National Title will call the Texas Panhandle home next season.

The Amarillo Bulls, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced today (Thursday) they have tendered forward Eric Cooley for the 2016-17 season. Cooley is the fifth player tendered by the Bulls joining Brendan Walkom, Justin Michaelian, Brendan Michaelian, and Luke Edgerton.

Cooley was a force in the recent U18 National Championship Game scoring once and setting up two other goals as the Pens Elite Team blanked Carver Academy 3-0.

"The Amarillo Bulls have a great track record over the years and Coaches Matt (Nicholson) and Tony (Attanucci) have made it clear regarding how terrific the set up is there," said Cooley. "I think it's a great step forward for me and can't wait to begin my junior career."

In 32 regular season games, Cooley had eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points. The season prior the West Miffin, PA native picked up 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 18 games with the Pens Elite U16 team.

Cooley said one of his biggest assets he is bringing to the team is his speed.

"I'm a smaller player, but I like to use my speed to create openings for my teammates," he said. "I'm always looking for the pass and I can be accountable in the defensive end."

Bulls Assistant Coach Tony Attanucci is thrilled to have Cooley join the team this fall as part of the staff's first strong recruiting class.

"He is a skilled forward that has the IQ, skating ability, puck skills, and vision to create opportunities for his teammates from the center position," said Attanucci. "Like his current PPE and future Bulls teammate, Luke Edgerton, he is a competitor that can excel in any hockey situation. Eric is a great student with excellent character, and we look forward to helping him develop in Amarillo."

Cooley said he is excited about the crop of young players the Bulls are bringing this fall.

"From what I've heard, the players coming in are awesome and I have played against most of them," he said. "I'm very excited about the future and I think we will have a good team."

The Amarillo Bulls close out their regular season tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday against the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum. Fans can tune into the action live on CBS Sports Radio 1440, online at www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV with Fast Hockey, beginning with the Wayland Baptist University Warm Up Show at 6:40 pm. The puck drop with Denis J. Puska follows at 7 pm.
