Altrichter Excels for Hawks
October 16, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Jakub Altrichter was a significant contributor to a pair of Waterloo Black Hawks victories over the weekend, leading the United States Hockey League to recognize him as the USHL Forward of the Week on Monday.
The Czech 20-year-old paced Waterloo with four total points from two goals and two assists. He was also +2. The Black Hawks defeated the Chicago Steel 5-2 on the road Friday, then prevailed 4-3 on Saturday against the Omaha Lancers. The two victories represent Waterloo's first back-to-back wins during the young season. Altrichter is the first Waterloo player to win a USHL weekly award in 2023/24.
In Chicago, Altrichter tallied his first power play point since joining the Hawks, assisting on John Mustard's second period goal. Then while penalty killing during the third, he intercepted a pass in the Steel zone and scored shorthanded. He was credited with three shots during the game.
At home the next night, Altrichter helped force another turnover in a shorthanded situation, setting up a shot in transition for Carson Reed. Although that initial attempt was stopped, Altrichter was on the spot to put in the rebound. As a result, he became just the second USHL player with two shorthanded goals this season, joining Kamil Bednarik of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. Exactly two minutes after scoring, Altrichter set up a goal by Mustard for the second consecutive night, sending a spinning centering pass from the right circle to the rookie waiting at the top of the crease.
Altrichter now has five points (two goals, three assists) in just four appearances for the Black Hawks. He is tied for third in team scoring.
Waterloo acquired Altrichter in a trade from the Green Bay Gamblers announced on September 19th. Last year with Green Bay, he was limited to 23 games, producing one goal and 11 assists. With two points on Friday, then two more on Saturday, Altrichter has already matched the number of multipoint games he had in 2022/23.
He is committed to Northern Michigan University.
The Black Hawks are home on Friday against the Lincoln Stars at 7:05 p.m. Fans in attendance will receive a 2023/24 magnetic schedule while supplies last. For seats, call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office or visit tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com.
