Huntsville Flight News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 17 Ron Slay scored 21 points off the bench to lead the Asheville Altitude to a 98-63 victory over the Huntsville Flight in National Basketball Development League preseason action. Slay connected on nine of 12 field goals, and made all three of his free throw attempts.
The game was the only preseason action for both teams.
Asheville took command of the game with a 13-2 run from late in the first quarter into the second quarter. During the run, Slay had 11 points, mostly off of Huntsville turnovers forced by Asheville?s pressure defense.
The Flight jumped out to a 19-12 lead in the first quarter behind seven points from Joe Shipp. After calling timeout, the Altitude came out with a full-court press defense that helped turned the game in their favor for good.
Huntsville finished with 34 turnovers, compared to just 18 for Asheville.
Earl Barron was the only Flight player in double-figures with 17 points. Rodney Bias, Joe Shipp and Mengke Bateer each finished with seven. Bias, the NBDL?s top rebounder last season, finished with a game-high nine boards.
Antonio Meeking had 14 points and Derrick Davenport had 13 points for the Altitude.
Both teams played with 12-man rosters in their only tune up before Thursday?s deadline to trim the rosters to 10.
Asheville opens the season Saturday at Fayetteville. Huntsville opens Saturday at Columbus.
