Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - Viosergy Rosa's two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning sent the game to extras but Albert Almora's outstanding performance boosted the Cubs to a 13-8, 13 inning victory over the Hammerheads on Monday.

Almora hit for the cycle, drove in five runs and scored four runs on the night. His cycle-clinching triple turned out to be the difference in the game.

With one out and the game tied at eight in top of the 13th, Almora hit a line drive into the gap in right center. Ryan Goetz laid out in center but was far from making the catch as Almora motored around to third as both runners scored to give Daytona a 10-3 lead.

The Cubs would pile on three more runs in the frame to put things away.

It wasn't the first time Almora would put Daytona on top. In the ninth inning with the game tied at five the 20-year-old centerfielder hit a go-ahead two run double.

After a Dan Vogelbach plated Almora with a single to make it 8-5, Jupiter would storm back in the bottom of the ninth.

With one out Matt Juengel doubled and scored when Anthony Gomez followed with a single.

After a groundout, Rosa destroyed a 1-0 pitch by Starling Peralta for a two-run game tying homer to keep the Hammerheads alive.

Jupiter would have multiple chances to win the game in extras but couldn't come through.

In the 10th Cody Keefer led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a groundout but was stranded there.

In the 11th the Hammerheads had their best scoring chance. With two outs Colin Moran walked and Rosa followed with a single into right. The ball got under the glove of the right fielder but Moran originally hesitated at second, then slipped as he was rounding third.

Blake Barber would strikeout to end the threat and eventually things would fall apart in the 13th.

Rosa's home run was not the only long ball of the night for Jupiter as Juengel hit a solo shot in the third inning.

The Cubs would blast three homers including long balls by the first two batters of the game, Marco Hernandez and Almora. Bijan Rademacher would also go deep, a game tying two-run shot off Sam Alvis in the eighth inning.

Hammerheads pitchers did tie a season-high with 15 strikeouts in the game. The Sharks also slugged 13 hits including three apiece from Rosa, Keefer and Justin Bohn.

The Hammerheads will have an off day on Tuesday before they hit the road on Wednesday for their longest road trip of the season. Following the eight-game road trip the Sharks will return to Roger Dean Stadium on July 24th to begin a four-game series with the Clearwater Threshers.

WP: Zack Godley (3-1)
