Daytona Beach Thunder News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Daytona Beach Thunder defensive back Nick Allison has been named the American Indoor Football League's Southern Conference defensive player of the week.
Allison registered his third two-interception game of the season last Thursday as the Thunder outlasted the Florence Phantoms 58-52 in the AIFL's second-ever overtime game. His second pick occurred with 40 seconds remaining in the OT period and helped the Thunder preserve its second straight victory.
Allison is currently tied for third in the AIFL in interceptions, trailing co-leaders Montrail Pittman of the Raleigh Rebels and Jermaine Collins of the Rome Renegades by one.
Last year, Allison tied the National Indoor Football League single-season interception record (14) and played in the UIF championship game with the Sioux City Bandits.
He's the third Thunder player to be honored this season. Last week, Robert Bailey and Durrell Preston were co-offensive and co-defensive players of the week for their roles in the Thunder's 49-24 smacking of the Augusta Spartans. Bailey registered 171 yards receiving and five touchdown catches while Preston recorded nine tackles and a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown to spur a secondary that did not allow a passing touchdown.
The Thunder returns to action April 13 at home against the Rome Renegades.
