Allgood Traded to Tulsa in Three-Team Deal

May 17, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

TULSA, Okla. - The Philadelphia Soul, San Jose SaberCats and Tulsa Talons finalized a blockbuster trade which sent quarterback Justin Allgood back to his former team in Tulsa, Okla. As a part of the three-team trade, Phildelphia swapped wide receiver Rodney Wright for Allgood. Philadelphia then traded Wright to San Jose for offensive lineman Patrick Afif and future considerations.

"We had the benefit of having two starting caliber quarterbacks on our roster," Soul General Manager Tom Goodhines said. "We had a need in the offensive line. There was a surplus in one area that we could capitalize on to improve in another area of need."

Allgood, who was the Talons starting quarterback in 2010 and tossed 109-regular season touchdowns, signed with the Soul on October 14, 2010. He shuffled from starter to backup as he shared time with quarterback Ryan Vena.

Tulsa has featured two starting quarterbacks this season in Bobby Reid and Matt Bassuener. Bassuener, who took over as the team's starting quarterback against the Pittsburgh Power on April 2, 2011, has led the team to victory in four of the last six games.

"We are pretty happy with where we are at with our quarterback right now. Matt is our starting quarterback and has done a great job so far," Talons Head Coach Mitch Allner said. "It was great to get Allgood back home and to the team he has played with for the past few years. We are going to feel out how things go as far as his playing time. Bassuener has been here from the start of the season and our team is in a pretty good place right now where we are playing good ball."

Wright will rejoin the SaberCats after spending four seasons with the organization. Wright played three games with the team earlier this year and tallied 399-yards and three touchdowns before leaving the team due to family reasons. The Talons claimed him off reassignment on Tuesday, March 29, 2011.

"Rodney was enjoying a great season with us, before he left the team for family reasons," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "We're excited to reacquire him and hopefully he can contribute the rest of this season."

Afif, who is in his third year in the AFL, was an anchor on San Jose's offensive line during their 2007 ArenaBowl XXI victory. Afif played with the Orlando Predators in 2010. Along with Afif, Philadelphia will receive future considerations from Philadelphia.
