Alley Cats Lose a Close One in Albany

December 26, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Indiana AlleyCats News Release

The Indiana Alley Cats just couldn't contain Jamario Moon or T.J. Thompson. They lost a close one at Albany to the Patroons on Christmas night, 116-112. The Alley Cats were only able to pick up one quarter point in the loss.

Albany jumped out to an early 32-29 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Alley Cats bounced back to finish the half strong with a big second quarter, one in which they outscored the Patroons 30-20. This gave them a 59-52 lead at the break. A key reason Indiana led at the half was their ability to limit the CBA's scoring leader, T.J. Thompson, to only 3 first half points. The Patroons battled back, winning the third quarter and cutting the Alley Cats lead to only one, 84-83. The final quarter saw a back and forth battle between the two teams.

Albany led by as many as 7 with just under 6:00 remaining. Then Indiana made their move to tie the game up with 1:08 remaining on a layup by J.J. Sullinger. Moon gave the Patroons the lead back on a jumper, only to have Shaun Fountain tie it once again on a jumper. Moon came back to drill another jumper to give Albany a two point lead, 114-112, with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Alley Cats missed a great opportunity, when Shaun Fountain turned the ball over the next trip down the floor. Indiana was forced to foul and Albany iced the game with two free throws.

The Alley Cats were led by J.J. Sullinger, who finished with 26 points and 7 rebounds. Shaun Fountain had yet another double-double with 25 points and 10 assists. He increased his CBA-leading assist average up to 7.5 per game. Erick Barkley also had a good game, scoring 23 points while dishing out 4 assists. DeAndre Walker and Will Caudle round out the Alley Cats who finished with double figures in scoring, with 14 and 11, respectively. Walker had a team-high 8 rebounds as well. The Alley Cats were beaten on the boards once again, 38-29. They were able to stay in the game because they only turned the ball over 10 times while forcing 19 Albany turnovers.

T.J. Thompson finished with a game-high 28 points. Jamario Moon was right behind him with 27 points, including a huge last minute in regulation. Eric Williams had his second double-double against the Alley Cats in as many games. He finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Felipe Lopez contributed 19 in the victory. Reggie Jessie led the team with 6 assists. The victory improves the Patroons to 9-2 on the season.

The Alley Cats continue their 3 game road trip Wednesday night at Utah. Game time is scheduled for 9:00. The Alley Cats return home to face the Minot Skyrockets on New Year's Eve at 3:00. All home games will be played at the Anderson High School Wigwam. Indiana Alley Cats season tickets and single game tickets are currently on sale.
