
Allen's Charlie Effinger Named Sher-Wood/TPS CHL Goaltender Of The Month

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League announced today that Charlie Effinger of the Allen Americans has been named the Sher-Wood/TPS Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Month for the month of October/2009. Effinger will receive a portable DVD player, courtesy of Sher-Wood/TPS, to recognize his accomplishment.
Effinger, 23, won all three starts for the expansion Americans stopping 87 of 92 shots he faced in two wins versus Arizona and a victory against Bossier-Shreveport, all on the road. The 6-1, 165-pound goaltender finished the month tied for the league lead with a 1.67 goals against average. He started the season with a 32-save shutout performance in Arizona versus the Sundogs.
The Belleville, Illinois native is 3-1 on the season tasting defeat for the first time this season in his first start in November. Effinger's strong play in October earned him a call-up to the Texas Stars, the AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars) on October 30th.
Other players receiving consideration for the monthly award for October include Amarillo's Mike Brown, Bossier-Shreveport's John DeCaro, Colorado's Andrew Penner, Corpus Christi's Kris Tebbs, Laredo's Jean-Philippe, Levasseur, Mississippi's Ray Jean, Odessa's Juha Toivonen and Texas' Joe Palmer.
