Allen Homers Twice as Kannapolis Powers Past Greensboro

Kannapolis, NC - Brandon Allen socked two home runs and the Kannapolis Intimidators scored in every inning except the first en route to an 11-4 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers Monday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Intimidators (7-5, 39-43) won their first series of the season against the Grasshoppers (2-10, 40-42), taking three of four games.

Kannapolis starter Justin Edwards got off to a rough start, allowing three runs in the first two innings. But, he settled down to allow just one run in the next four innings and gave time for the offense to catch up.

The Intimidators got the leadoff man on in each of the first six innings and he came around to score in every one of those innings except the first. The Intimidators pulled ahead for good after scoring three runs in the third inning to make it 4-3.

Allen led the way with the two home runs, three hits in all, and four RBIs. Stefan Gartrell had two hits and three RBIs. Sergio Miranda, Chris Carter, Stefan Gartrell, and Matt Sharp all had two hits apiece. Anderson Gomes (0-for-4 with three strikeouts) was the only Intimidators without a hit.

Edwards (6-5) got the win, allowing four runs on 10 hits in six innings and striking out seven. The Intimidators struck out 11 Monday night to give them a total of 39 in the four-game set.

The Intimidators are now 7-9 against Greensboro on the season.

Next up, Kannapolis travels to Lexington, Kentucky to take on the Legends for four games. Game time Tuesday is set for 7:05 pm.
