All-Star G/F Jay Bowdy Ready to Return from Knee Injury
January 5, 2011 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
North Texas Fresh News Release
2009 - 2010 ABA All - Star Jay Bowdy's frustrating spell on the American Basketball Association's (ABA) North Texas Fresh team sidelines is set to end on January 20th, with the star guard/forward coming back as a player against the North Dallas Vandals; who rank in the top 25 in the ABA Power Rankings.
Bowdy, an ALL - ABA Selectee, has missed all games the Fresh have played this season due to a knee injury suffered back this summer.
But, barring any mishaps before tipoff, the prolific scorer and defender will suit up against a tough Vandals team that beat the Fresh by one in their first meeting in history. Only difference is that this game will be with Bowdy in uniform and with the Fresh playing at home.
"I'm no where near 100% but I need to touch the hardwood for my guys, the fans, and myself," Bowdy said. "The strength is building and the quickness I felt when I was making penetrating moves to the basket is there but it's still pain there. Overall, I was happy with that." Bowdy rated himself about 60 percent towards full fitness and expected to improve further before the match. He did not know whether he would be in the starting five or would come off the bench against the Vandals, but said the issue was irrelevant.
"He just wanted to spend time back on court and to be contributing for us," stated Guard Montrell Williams. "His passion and love for the game is elite and rare as he tries to do everything he can to make us successful as a team." Bowdy's last official contest came in a exhibition game against the Austin Knights; were he scored 33 points going 11 - 15 from the field and 4 - 5 from behind the arc.
"It's been months now just watching from the sidelines," Bowdy said. "Our team is growing and molding into a great family and team as we are young. My job is to contribute! I've contributed as a coach and now I will contribute again as a player."
The Fresh are 2 - 2 this season, losing their last 2 matches against the Vandals and Dallas Impact respectively. The Fresh have much of their season ahead of them and continue look to the exceptional play of AD Duncan, Montrell Williams, and rookies Troy Edwards, Roy Giles, and T.J. Gibson along with others to be successful this season. For tickets please visit http://northtexasfresh.ticketleap.com.
