Philadelphia KiXX News Release
Philadelphia, PA, January 4, 2005 â The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today the revised the 2004-05 season schedule as a result of the San Diego Sockers and the Monterrey Tigres discontinuing operations for the balance of the season. The League announced that decision on Thursday, December 30.
Under the new schedule, all remaining Philadelphia KiXX home dates will be played as scheduled with one exception; the Milwaukee Wave will replace the Monterrey Tigres as the team's opponent on Wednesday, February 16. Road dates with Monterrey and San Diego have been cancelled and replaced with a pair of visits to the Kemper Arena to battle the Kansas City Comets on February 9 and February 16. In addition, the team will travel to Milwaukee to square-off versus the Wave at the U.S. Cellular Arena on March 19. As such, the KiXX will complete the 2004-05 regular season with 39 games played, 20 home and 19 away. The complete 2004-05 KiXX schedule is available online at www.kixxonline.com.
The League also announced today that all seven remaining teams will now compete under one division. The revised format will allow four of the seven teams to qualify for postseason play. The MISL regular-season champion receives an automatic bid and earns the number one seed as determined by regular season win percentage. The other postseason spots are allotted to the three teams with the next best regular season win percentage. The Semifinal Round will now be a two-game, "home and home" series, with the No. 4 seed meeting the No. 1 seed and the No. 3 seed drawing the No. 2 seed. The higher seed reserves the right to choose home field for either Game One or Game Two. In the event the semifinalists split the two games, an overtime period with a "Golden Goal" will determine the series winner.
The Championship Series Final pits the winners of the Semifinal Round in a best-of-three series to be played on the weekends spanning from May 6 â May 15, 2005. The higher seed will earn home field advantage for Games One and Three, while the lower seed will retain home field for Game Two.
