Alejandro Pozuelo Voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 25

Inter Miami CF attacking midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo was voted the Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire for Week 25 of the 2022 regular season.

Pozuelo bossed the midfield with an 86% pass rate against New York City FC on Saturday, August 13 at DRV PNK Stadium, featuring as an instrumental facet of the consistently sharpening Inter Miami offense. The Spanish midfielder brought the Herons level within minutes after conceding an early goal, playing a pair of short passes with fellow attacking midfielder Bryce Duke before curling a powerful shot past New York City FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson in the 39th minute.

Pozuelo would also play a key role in Inter Miami's second goal, registering a secondary assist as he received a cross into the box and flicked the ball into the path of Gonzalo Higuaín, whose pass would tee up Ariel Lassiter's goalscoring strike.

The Spaniard remained on the hunt as Inter Miami sought the lead and all three points. His vigilance reaped rewards as he latched on to a wayward backwards pass from the New York City defense in the 84th minute, and slotted the ball past Johnson once again to clinch the victory for Inter Miami.

With his brace on the evening, his first recorded goals for the club, Pozuelo brought his tally against New York City FC to nine goals and five assists in twelve games. Pozuelo also became the first player in Inter Miami CF club history to produce at least two goals and one assist in a single match, and has totaled two goals and three assists in his last four games.

Pozuelo is Inter Miami's third MLS Player of the Week honoree this season, joining Leonardo Campana in Week 6, and Gonzalo Higuaín in Week 23.

Inter Miami CF is the first team this season to earn three MLS Player of the Week honors. The last teams to have three different players win the award in the same season were the New England Revolution and San Jose Earthquakes during the 2021 season.

Inter Miami CF is back in action at home on Saturday, August 20, against Pozuelo's former team Toronto FC. The match at DRV PNK Stadium kicks off at 8 p.m. ET, and will be streamed live regionally on My33, UniMás and the Inter Miami App. Tickets for the match are available HERE.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
