Albuquerque Thunderbirds Participates in One of Nation's Largest 3-on-3 Sporting Events

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., June 6, 2006 - The 2005-06 NBA Development League Champion Albuquerque Thunderbirds invite fans to the 9th annual Hoopla 3-on-3 Street Tournament. Front office members will be in attendance with ticket information for the upcoming 2006 - 2007 season.

The first Hoopla 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament was held in Albuquerque in 1998 with 185 teams, 740 players and over 10,000 spectators. Since then, the Hoopla Tournament has consistently grown into one of the nations largest 3-on-3 sporting events and is now in over 30 cities throughout the United States with expectations to reach over 50 cities within the next few years. The Hoopla is designed so that anyone can play: male or female, young and old, short and tall, the most experienced or no experience at all.

The D-League continues to develop talent from across all disciplines for the NBA's 30 teams and the entire NBA umbrella. This season, 19 NBA teams assigned 29 players to D-League affiliates. There were also 18 GATORADE Call-Ups from the D-League to the NBA. Additionally, every referee hired by the NBA since 2002 has worked in the D-League, while coaches, athletic trainers and front office executives are also being developed.

The D-League will be composed of the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Anaheim (Calif.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Bakersfield Jam (Calif.), Colorado 14ers (Broomfield), Dakota Wizards (Bismarck, N.D.), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Idaho Stampede (Boise), Los Angeles, Sioux Falls Skyforce (S.D.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).
