PITTSFIELD-The Berkshire Black Bears could not get on track against good pitching by the Albany Colonie Diamond Dogs Monday night as they lost the first game of a four game series, 8-1.
Starting pitcher Bob Case got off to a rough start as he gave up 2 singles, a double and a walk all leading to 2 runs for the Albany. Case lasted two more innings before being pulled. He allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2. New pitcher Ty Ryburn came on in relief. He pitched 2 innings of 1 hit baseball while striking out 1. Mike Minerva went to the mound in the 6th inning but was ineffective against the Albany attack. He allowed 4 runs, 2 earned, on 4 hits while striking out 1. Frank Philbrick closed out the game allowing just 1 hit while striking out 1.
At the plate catcher Scott Allen led the Black Bears going 2 for 4. George Garcia, Michael Moore, Ryan Smith and Luis Mercedes all had 1 hit in the game. The Black Bears left a total of 8 runners on base. The series continues tomorrow night at Wahconah Park.
