Alaniz Dominates, P-Nats Crush Pelicans in Series Finale

June 17, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release

(MYRTLE BEACH, SC) Adrian Alaniz was dominant for eight innings in Myrtle Beach, got a big lift from his offense, and the Potomac Nationals cruised to a 13-4 series-closing victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The righthander logged the longest outing by a starter this season and allowed just one run on two hits. He walked one and struck out six; after an RBI single by Mike Jones in the fourth inning, Alaniz retired the final 13 Pelicans batters he faced.

The Nats gave him all the run support he would need in the first two innings. Pelicans' starter Matt Crim had his rockiest start of the year and was chased with two outs in the second inning and nine runs in.

With one out in the first, Crim walked Brian Peacock, gave up a single to Mike Burgess and walked Derek Norris. Tyler Moore then began the scoring with a two-run single to left. Nick Moresi followed suit with a single of his own and it was 3-0.

In the second, the game was busted open. The first three Nats' hitters smashed base hits, and all three would score. Norris hit a sacrifice fly to right, Moore doubled and Moresi singled to make it 7-0. Moresi and Dan Lyons scored when Steve Lombardozzi.

The P-Nats added runs in the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings. Moresi and Moore were the offensive stars: Moresi went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored; Moore was 3-for-5 with four runs driven in and a walk. Potomac was one hit shy of its season high of 18.

The Nats are now 13-7 in series finales in the first half.

The Lynchburg Hillcats come to Potomac for the final three games before the All Star game. Friday night at 7:03 P.M., Brad Peacock will square off against Mark Serrano.
