
Alana Beard Earns First Starting Nod at All-Star Game

Washington, D.C. -The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced today that Washington Mystics Guard Alana Beard has been named a starter to the 2009 All-Star team. The game will be played on Saturday, July 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun and will be broadcast on ABC. It will be her first as a starter voted by the fans and her fourth all-star recognition. Beard is currently averaging 19.1 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 2.1 assists per game and a career-best 3.0 steals per game.
"I would like to give much credit and thanks to my teammates, coaches and the entire Mystics front office," said Beard. "It is an honor to be named to the all-star team and even more of an honor to be voted in by our loyal Mystics fans."
The Washington Mystics will host the 2008 WNBA Finalist, San Antonio Silver Stars on Wednesday, July 15 at 11:30 a.m. It will be the team's annual camp day. Beard will be available to media prior to the game from 9:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. and again following the game.
