Akron Racers News Release
AKRON, OH - The Akron Racers will "Toast" the Cleveland Cavaliers before Akron's next home game on Saturday, June 25th. The Racers will hold the city's largest public toast to the Cavaliers and Akron's very own superstar, LeBron James, at Firestone Stadium. The Cavaliers turned in a record-setting performance to win their first NBA Championship in franchise history and erased a 52-year drought in Cleveland sports history.
With the purchase of a $7 ticket to the game against the USSSA Florida Pride, fans will receive a coupon for a free fountain drink. In the pre-game ceremonies, both the Racers and the Pride will join fans in raising a toast to the Cavaliers' championship, the first for the City of Cleveland since December 27, 1964.
Saturday's game will kick off a crucial three-game series between Akron (7-5), which currently sits in second place in the NPF, and the first place Pride (6-2). Following Saturday's game, Akron will welcome USSSA back to Firestone Stadium on Sunday for a 4:05 pm game. On Monday, Akron will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan and Alumni Field on the University of Michigan campus for a Pride home game to be televised on CBS Sports Network.
The Racers are off to a great start to the 2016 season, the team's 15th Season of Play, thanks in large part to the swinging of the hottest bats in the NPF. Akron leads the league with a .303 batting average and 6.5 runs scored per game. Alex Hugo (Georgia) became the second consecutive Racer to win the NPF Rookie of the Week award on Monday, June 20 after batting 6-for-14 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI in six games this past week.
Fellow rookie Sami Fagan won the award last week as a part of a clean sweep for the Racers with Akron third baseman Kelley Montalvo winning Offensive Player of the Week and pitcher Jailyn Ford winning the Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively.
