
Akeem Garcia Wins 2020 Golden Boot

The Canadian Premier League (CPL) announced Thursday that HFX Wanderers Forward Akeem Garcia has won the 2020 Golden Boot, Awarded to the Canadian Premier League's top scoring Player from the Island Games. The winners of the 2020 CPL Awards were selected by a judging panel comprised of media writers and reporters from across Canada.
Following his 7 goals in the Wanderers inaugural season, Garcia scored six goals and drove perhaps the most entertaining counter-attacking offence in the CPL in 2020. Garcia now has a total of 13 league goals, tied for the league's all-time top goal scorer. At the Island Games, Garcia played 758, scoring an average of 0.7 goals per 90 minutes.
All awards take into account the nominees' performance for the full Canadian Premier League 2020 season from August 13 to September 19, 2020. Garcia's category included runner-up Marco Bustos (5 goals) from Pacific FC and Wanderers teammate Joao Morelli (4 goals).
