Ajara Nchout Njoya and Cameroon Meet China PR Tonight

June 20, 2015 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO (June 20, 2015) - Ajara Nchout Njoya and Cameroon look to pull off another shock when they meet China PR on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET at Commonwealth Stadium in the Round 16 at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Edmonton, Alberta.

Njoya and the Indomitable Lions came to Canada as the second-lowest rated team in FIFA's Women's Rankings at the tournament. But that didn't stop No. 53-ranked Cameroon from advancing out of a group that included the defending World Cup Champions, Japan, and the No. 19-ranked team in the world, Switzerland.

It was against the Europeans that the Indomitable Lions confirmed their place in the knockout stages and secured second place in Group C as they rallied for a 2-1 victory.

After coming on as a second-half substitute in the previous two games - including a 2-1 loss to Japan in which she scored in the 90th minute - Njoya made her first start of the tournament against the Swiss. The Western New York Flash forward played 57 minutes in the contest before she was replaced, having picked up a yellow card.

That yellow card means Njoya will need to be careful in the Round of 16 encounter with China as another yellow will result in her missing the next match.

The game Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between the two countries as Cameroon looks to extend their debut at the World Cup.

Regardless of the outcome, it has already been an historic tournament for coach Ngachu Enow's side - who have earned their first two victories at the World Cup and made it out of their group in their first trip to the finals. It's a result made all the more impressive given that the Indomitable Lions scored only one goal and lost all three games they played at their last major international tournament - the 2012 London Olympics.

A victory over China would extend that run and see Cameroon travel to Ottawa for a quarterfinal on Friday, June 26 at Lansdowne Stadium against the winner of the United States-Colombia match.
