AirHogs Sign Pitchers Blacksher and Adkins

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Grand Prairie AirHogs announced that the team has signed RHP Derek Blacksher and LHP James Adkins to contracts for the 2013 season.

Blacksher pitched for the Wichita Wingnuts last season posting a 10-5 record with a 4.55 ERA as a starter.

He's pitched for a number of independent league teams in his career including Gateway, Newark, Fort Worth and Wichita.

The Texas native was drafted in the 33rd round of the 2007 draft out of McNeese State by the Florida Marlins.

In 2011, Adkins pitched in the Reds organization for Carolina in the Southern League going 0-1 with a 5.74 ERA in 31 appearances out of the bullpen.

Adkins was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1st round (39th overall) of the 2007 draft out of the University of Tennessee. He made it as high as triple-A with the Dodgers organization in 2010 when he finished the year at Albuquerque.

In five seasons of minor league baseball, Adkins has an overall record of 15-25 with a 4.85 ERA covering 141 games.
