April 27, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

Late heroics helped both Rochester and Chicago to series-clinching victories last night, leaving just 14 teams left in the hunt for a Calder Cup championship... Derek Roy's second goal of the night broke a 3-3 tie with 3:01 left in regulation and the Americans went on to a 5-4 win in Hamilton, completing a four-game sweep of the Bulldogs... The Amerks, who trailed by a goal early in the third period, came from behind to win all four games in the series, sweeping the Bulldogs out of the postseason for the second straight spring... In Houston, Brian Maloney scored with 1:50 to go in the game, his first goal in 26 contests, snapping a 3-3 deadlock and sending Chicago to a 5-3 victory... The Wolves won the series in five games by taking three straight at the Toyota Center, where the Aeros are now 0-5 in postseason play... Tommi Santala and Cory Larose had a goal and an assist each, and Kari Lehtonen made 26 saves for his 19th win in his last 22 starts.

Tonight, Milwaukee can set up a date with Chicago if the Admirals can finish off Cincinnati in Game 5 (7:35 ET)... The Admirals took a 3-1 series lead on the strength of Brian Finley's 28-save shutout on Monday night... Simon Gamache has eight points in Milwaukee's three wins, but was held scoreless in the Game 2 loss... The Mighty Ducks have won eight straight at Cincinnati Gardens since a 4-3 loss to the Admirals on Mar. 25.

Providence takes a 2-1 series lead into Game 4 against visiting Manchester (7:05 ET)... Andy Hilbert, who had just two points in 10 regular-season meetings with the Monarchs, has three goals and three assists in the series so far... The Bruins have scored nine first-period goals in the three games, and are 4-for-16 on the power play... Mathieu Garon, who had a 2.12 GAA for the Monarchs in 2004-05, has allowed 10 goals on 62 shots (5.58, .839) in just over five periods of work.

Despite prevailing in Monday night's marathon, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is still down, 2-1, hosting Binghamton in Game 4 tonight (7:05 ET)... The Penguins' Erik Christensen and the Senators' Antoine Vermette lead all scorers with four points apiece in the series... Colby Armstrong had gone 16 postseason games without a goal before ending Game 3 at 12:26 of the third overtime... Jason Spezza was held scoreless on Monday after recording a point in 22 straight games.

Norfolk used a pair of third-period goals and a solid 30-save effort from Craig Anderson to win Game 3 and get back in the series... The Admirals can pull even with Philadelphia by taking Game 4 tonight at Scope (7:30 ET)... Norfolk had scored just two goals over the first eight periods of the series before Colin Fraser and Ajay Baines struck late in Monday's contest... Patrick Sharp has assisted on four of the Phantoms' seven goals.

Game 4 at the MTS Centre tonight (8:30 ET) has St. John's trying to tie up its series with Manitoba... After a close opener, the Maple Leafs rolled in Game 2, and the Moose won convincingly in Game 3... Manitoba's Ryan Kesler is leading all scorers with five points in the series... Rookie Colin Murphy, who was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award at Michigan Tech this year, has 12 points in his last 12 games for St. John's, including four points in the series.
