Linemates Jason Krog (2g, 2a), Juraj Kolnik (1g, 3a) and Trent Hunter (1g, 2a) combined for 11 points and Rick DiPietro made 20 saves in his professional playoff debut as Bridgeport blanked Manitoba in Game 1 on Sunday, 5-0. Rookie Justin Mapletoft also scored for the Sound Tigers, who are 8-3-2 against Canadian teams this season. Eric Healey's goal 59 seconds into the third period held up as Manchester evened its best-of-five series with a 4-3 win over Hartford on Sunday. Steve Kelly recorded a goal and two assists for the Monarchs, who lost a 2-0 lead before rallying for the victory. Roman Lyashenko had a goal and an assist in his Wolf Pack debut. Jean-Marc Pelletier made 31 saves in his first career Calder Cup Playoff start, leading Lowell to a series-opening 3-2 victory over St. John's on Sunday. Ted Drury, a mid-season acquisition from the New Jersey organization, assisted on all three Lock Monsters goals and Jeff Heerema recorded a goal and an assist for the North Division champs. Game 2 is Tuesday night. Grand Rapids takes a 1-0 series lead into its rematch with Chicago tonight at Van Andel Arena (7:00 ET, 6:00 CT). The Griffins took Saturday's opener, 4-1, on the strength of three power play goals, and Martin Prusek made 19 saves to win his AHL playoff debut. The Wolves dropped Game 1 of their qualifying series to Cincinnati before rallying to win the last two. Former Citadelle Alain Nasreddine's goal 5:50 into overtime gave Hamilton a 4-3 win over Quebec in Game 1 on Saturday night; Game 2 is tonight (7:30 ET) at Le Colisee Pepsi. Nasreddine earned redemption for his roughing penalty that led to Eric Landry's game-tying power play goal with 26 seconds remaining in regulation. Brian Swanson scored twice, and rookie Ty Conklin made 44 saves to earn the win in net.

A total of 751 American Hockey League graduates suited up for NHL games during the 2001-02 regular season, or more than 76 percent of the total player pool. Of those, 349 also played in the AHL this season. There were 114 AHL grads who made their NHL debuts this season, including 2002 All-Rookie defenseman Barret Jackman (St. Louis) and 2001 Calder Cup champions Derrick Walser (Columbus) and Micki DuPont (Calgary), all of whom saw their first NHL action last week. Ten former AHL head coaches are among the 16 participants in the 2002 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Robbie Ftorek (Boston), Bill Barber (Philadelphia), Pat Quinn (Toronto), Peter Laviolette (N.Y. Islanders), Jacques Martin (Ottawa), Michel Therrien (Montreal), Bob Hartley (Colorado), Joel Quenneville (St. Louis), Bob Francis (Phoenix) and Marc Crawford (Vancouver).
