Aguasvivas Homers Twice; Tigers Sweep DH

NORWICH-The Connecticut Tigers (5-10) won game one of a doubleheader by a score of 8-0 before earning a 7-6 win in game two over the Vermont Lake Monsters (8-7) before 914 fans at Dodd Stadium on Monday night.

The Tigers started the scoring with a single run in the second inning of game one.

RF Jeff McVaney (1-3) doubled and scored when CF Patrick Smith (2-4) singled.

Connecticut tacked on two more runs in the third inning. SS Jordan Dean (1-3) walked and went to second base when LF Danry Vasquez (2-4) singled. McVaney was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Aguasvivas hit a two-run single to make it 3-0.

After the Tigers scored a run in the fourth inning, Smith hit a solo home run and Aguasvivas hit a two-run home run in a four-run, fifth inning for an 8-0 lead.

RHP Edgar De La Rosa pitched six scoreless innings to earn the win.

The scoring started early in game two of the doubleheader. Vermont jumped out to the early 2-0 lead before the Tigers scored two runs in the first inning. CF Jake Stewart (0-2) walked and LF Danry Vasquez (2-3) singled. 1B Juaner Aguasvivas (2-3) walked and RF Patrick Smith cleared the bases with a double. He scored when 3B Brett Harrison (1-2) reached base on an error for a 4-2 lead.

After the Lake Monsters scored sing runs in the second and third innings to tie the score at 4-4, the Tigers scored three runs in the fourth inning to earn a 7-4 lead. Aguasvivas hit his second home run of the doubleheader, a two-run home run to give the Tigers a three-run lead.

The Tigers and Lake Monsters finish their series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. It's dollar hot dog night presented by Kayem Hot Dogs. The Tigers will send RHP Endrys Briceno (0-1, 14.63) to the mound against RHP Deyvi Jimenez (0-1, 10.29) for the Lake Monsters Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com.
