NAHL Springfield Jr. Blues

Again...

January 2, 2010 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

Here we go at ‘em again tonight. Two more injuries last night to Captain Mike Schaber and Nick "the Wizard" Curry as the injuries keep mounting. When will it stop happening to our Good Guys? It seems like this year is going to be remembered as the year of injuries. Denys Petrukhno, Wally Cossette, Mike and Nick are the injured scratches tonight, and I just learned that Trent Frey will not dress because of a case of the flu. Randy Cure is back from a shoulder injury, but he's not 100% yet. Let's get these injuries over with and get everyone healthy for the playoffs. Yes! I'm sure we will make the playoffs, and if we can get everyone healed and on line we just might surprise some folks. Time will tell, I guess, but we have certainly had more than our fair share of hurts this year, and we just have to stay positive. There is too much talent on this year's team not to.

Well, a familiar story at the end of the first period as the St. Louis Bandits lead once again by a score of 1 - 0. Both teams played hard again throughout the period, but the Bandits look better organized and more disciplined in their play, but you can't take anything away from the energy that the Jr. Blues bring to the table. There have to be some wins in there somewhere, doesn't there? We have two more periods to find out tonight. So...Let's Go Blues!

We felt good for a couple of minutes as the Jr. Blues tied the score, but St. Louis came right back to regain the lead with a goal that made the score 2 - 1 at the second intermission. The Jr. Blues continued to play hard throughout the second, but at times looked like they were in disarray and undisciplined. Most of the second period was played in the Jr. Blues zone so give the defense, depleted by injury, kudos for holding St. Louis to just one goal during the middle twenty minutes. Never the less we're still down a goal at the end of two.

The Jr. Blues continued to play hard, but mostly looked disoriented on the ice as St. Louis controlled the game in the third period, scored two goals to put the game out of reach. Final score 4 - 1. At least it wasn't another one goal loss to the Bandits. The Jr. Blues Power Play continues to be ineffective and it looks like the guys are wearing down due to the number of injuries. Looking at the bench, it appeared that team morale is at its lowest. And we have nine more games in a row with Numbers 1 and 2 of our Southern Division.
