Los Angeles Aftershock News Release

Westchester, CA. It looked like a classic from the start with the Inglewood Cobras and Los Angeles Aftershock battling for the ABA Summer Pro League title Saturday night. The game turned out to be confirmation of status for Head Coach Andre Smith and the Aftershock who took a small lead early and turned it into strong victory, 142-122.

Jamar Cramer was spectacular defensively; Clay Tucker attacked Inglewood from the perimeter while Diamond Johnson got the Cobras going early with good scoring. Nick Sheppard dominated the interior - and along with Will Burr - provided a glimpse of what was to come in throughout the game. The halftime score was a lopsided 85-56 in favor of LA. Sean Higgins, ABASPL organizer, owner of the Cobras and Head Coach, implored his team to defend full court, make easy shots and forget about the scoreboard as they entered the third period. Terryl Woolery had 4 3-pointers early and it appeared that Inglewood could creep back into the game, but Clay Tucker hit 2 crucial threes and Dion Bailey was exceptional at breaking the Cobra press and converting easy baskets. LA led 111-85 as they entered the final period.

The final quarter was more resistance than conquering as Inglewood would gain momentum for a moment and appear to tighten the game only to have LA show great will in withstanding the Cobra charge and regain its comfort.

Will Burr led the Aftershock with 28 points including 5 from 9 from the 3 point line. Tucker was special with 27 and 11 assists while Sheppard was almost unstoppable with 23 points. Bailey added 19, Davis and Williams had 14 and 13 respectively. Johnson led Inglewood with 26 while Cornelius had 22, Sanders 18, and Woolery and Mike Jones combined for 31 points.

Nick Sheppard and Jamar Cramer were named Co-MVPs for the ABA Summer Pro League. The All ABA Summer Pro League Team included: Nick Sheppard (LA), James Cramer (LA), Mike Jones (Inglewood), Diamond Johnson (Inglewood), Clay Tucker (LA), Thomas Blunt (9Sports), Lamar Gayle (Pasadena), Will Burr (LA), Cole Miller (Inglewood), Maurice Spillers (LA).
